Bangladesh Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics Committee

Bangladesh Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics Committee (BDOAAC) was recognized as the National Olympiad Authority for Bangladesh team selection on 8 February 2018 with the permission of IOAA. Many of the members of this committee are ex-nationals, many of the students participating in the International Olympiad are pursuing higher education in astronomy. There are many workers and experienced students and teachers who love space science and are under overall supervision. In the first year organized by this committee, about a thousand enthusiastic students participated in 10 regional competitions, out of which 120 finalists participated in the national round at Jahangirnagar University in Dhaka.

In China Beijing Bangladesh team participated in the 12th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad with 5 finalists and 2 team leaders in the national stage selection camp. Bangladesh's results that year were overall better with 4 contestants each securing more than 40% marks and 1 contestant getting a special honor award. It was a remarkable success of Bangladesh Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad as a first time participation.

What's IOAA

IOAA is being held annually since 2007 and BDOAA is sending students to the olympiad every year since 2018. We’re proud that in our very first attempt in IOAA 2018 China one of our students managed to get an Honorable Mention. In 2020/2021/2023, students selected by BDOAA to represent IOAA got several medals including silver bronze, and honorable mentions!
